Nick Furman is the Executive Director of the Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission, and has lived in the Bay Area since 1970. He has been involved in the commercial fishing and seafood industries for his entire career and is the only member of the team who does not have a law enforcement background.

Nick is a long-time local distance runner and an avid bicyclist. During the summer of 2004, he completed a ‘solo’ bicycle ride from Coos Bay, OR to Cape Cod, MA, following the Lewis & Clark Trail for many of the 4,316 miles across the United States. His wife Kathy, who works for the Women’s Safety & Resource Center, drove the ‘sag’ vehicle and kept him hydrated during the long, hot days on the road. They also enjoy kayaking the many bays, rivers and estuaries along the South Coast.

Being invited to be part of the ‘Coos Bay to the U.K’ team was an honor and Nick looks forward to training with the group in preparation for the ‘trip across the pond’, as their new-found friends in England call it. It’s shaping up to be a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience for everyone involved.
