Hugo is a 35 years old native of Coos Bay, Oregon. He has been a police officer for 12 years. He began his career as a police officer in 1993 when he volunteered as a reserve deputy for the Coos County Sheriff’s Office. In 1996 he became employed full time as a Jail Deputy, and about a year and a half later, Hugo transferred to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, where he served as a patrol deputy for several years.

In April 2000, Hugo was employed by the Coos Bay Police Department, and is currently assigned as a police detective. He also currently serves as a field training officer, a Drug Recognition Expert, a bicycle officer, and a public information officer for the department.

Hugo has a wife named Eva, who has loved and supported him throughout their marriage of 14 years. His two children, Anthony age 13, and Alicia age 10, love to do things with him while he is off duty. He enjoys many outdoor activities offered on the Southern Oregon Coast, including ocean fishing, camping, and ATV riding. He enjoys working outside on his property for rest and relaxation.

Hugo’s cycling experience has been primarily off road mountain bike riding, but has recently switched to road bike riding in preparation for the upcoming trip to the United Kingdom.

Hugo is very excited about the opportunity to represent the Coos Bay Police Department on a trip that involves riding a bicycle across the U.K. On a more personal note, Hugo lost his mother to cancer this past June. He sees this journey to the U.K. as a once in a lifetime opportunity, and as something that he can do in memory of his mother.
